Job description

Position Title: Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor

Department: Architecture

Reporting To: Dean, Faculty of Architecture & Planning

Location: Vadodara, Gujarat

Employment Type: Full-time (Regular)


  • Role Overview

Faculty in the Department of Architecture are expected to contribute across the domains of teaching,

research, professional engagement, institutional development, and administrative accountability.

The

roles expand in depth and leadership as one rises from Assistant to Associate to full Professor.

Faculty should

strive to be active scholars, mentors, and institutional contributors in alignment with CoA, UGC, and University

standards.


A.

Assistant Professor

Teaching & Academic Delivery

  • Teach undergraduate and possibly postgraduate modules: design studios, theory, technology.

  • Prepare detailed teaching plans, course outlines, learning outcomes, student assessments.

  • Interact proactively with enrolled students (pre-course meetings, regular check-ins).

  • Ensure submission of grades, feedback, and course reports within stipulated timeframes.

Research & Scholarly Engagement

  • Participate in institutional research or collaborative projects.

  • Publish papers, present at conferences, assist senior faculty in grant proposals.

  • Engage in design competitions or community design exposure.

Operational & Institutional Tasks

  • Contribute to administration of academic events (workshops, exhibitions, juries).

  • Manage budgets for special courses (e.g. summer, travel studio), prepare advance and expense documentation.

  • Take responsibility for logistical needs: arranging site visits, travel, accommodation, procurement.

  • Support accreditation efforts (NAAC, NIRF, CoA) by providing documentation or evidence.

  • Participate in departmental committees, curriculum review, and student mentorship.

Consultancy Cell Projects

  • Identify and assist in bidding for tenders, research projects, related to urban and regional planning.

B.

Associate Professor

Teaching & Academic Leadership

  • Lead design studios and theory/advanced modules with pedagogical innovation.

  • Design/update curricula and mentor junior colleagues in teaching methods.

  • Supervise major student projects and postgraduate research work.

Research & Projects

  • Lead research initiatives, secure external funding, and publish in high-impact forums.

  • Oversee consultancy or applied design projects in collaboration with government, industry, or

communities.

  • Mentor junior faculty/research scholars in writing proposals, methodology, publications.

Institutional & Administrative Leadership

  • Serve on key committees: academic planning, policy, quality assurance, MoU, industry collaborations.

  • Lead or organize conferences, symposia, guest lectures, and outreach programs.

  • Oversee or coordinate outreach, community design interventions, or continuing education programs.

  • Undertake periodic reviews of courses, pedagogy, and program outcomes.

Operational Accountability

  • Prepare and monitor budgets for departmental / course initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance of expenses, reimbursements, and audit requirements.

  • Provide leadership in departmental coordination, resource planning, and faculty development.

C.

Professor

Vision & Academic Leadership

  • Chart long-term academic strategy, lead curriculum transformation and institutional visioning.

  • Mentor entire faculty cohorts and oversee their scholarly growth.

  • Guide doctoral and high-level interdisciplinary research programs.

High Impact Research & Consultancy

  • Lead large-scale, funded research and design projects with institutional visibility.

  • Publish monographs, lead international collaborations, serve on editorial boards.

  • Lead policy advisory roles, design commissions, and national/ international academic bodies.

Institutional Governance & External Relations

  • Advise on university-level academic policies, partner institutions, and strategic direction.

  • Lead accreditation, audits, compliance, and institutional reputation initiatives.

  • Represent the institution in academic forums, government agencies, and professional bodies.

Administrative & Financial Oversight

  • Approve, monitor, and report budgets for departmental and institute-level initiatives.

  • Ensure financial and operational compliance, audits, and accountability.

  • Oversee major institutional projects, infrastructure planning, resource mobilization.

  • Foster industry partnerships, alumni networks, public engagement, and institutional branding.

Associate

8 years (teaching/research/profession), including 3

years full-time teaching OR 13 years professional


Professor

(or allied) with 60%

at either level; PhD preferred

14 years (teaching/research/profession), including

5 years as full-time teacher OR 19 years

professional


Note: Must be a Registered Architect with the Council of Architecture, and experience is counted after registration.


Desirable Skills & Attributes

  • Advanced design, analytical, and critical thinking ability.

  • Proficiency in architecture/design software (CAD/ SketchUp/ Revit/ Rhino/ Adobe Suite/ GIS, etc.).

  • Strong communication, mentorship, and leadership skills.

  • Proven ability in interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and professional networks.

  • Commitment to innovation in pedagogy, sustainable design, research culture, and institutional growth.
