Role:  As a Data Engineer III , you'll serve as a strategic data engineering leader, driving Flexcar's data architecture vision and establishing the engineering standards that enable our organization to scale.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior data professional to help shape the future of our data platform, lead cross-organizational initiatives, and build the technical foundation that will support Flexcar's continued growth and innovation.

You'll work on the technical implementation of critical data pipelines and initiatives, partnering with executive leadership, external stakeholders, and engineering teams across the organization to define and execute our long-term data engineering goals while furthering Flexcar's goal to be a data driven business.

What you will do: Own the Data Foundation : Take full ownership of the development, streamlining, and maintenance of the most critical and complex data pipelines that power Flexcar's business intelligence and analytics capabilities Create Curated Datasets : Design and implement clean, well-structured datasets that enable teams across the organization to make data-driven decisions with confidence Collaborate on Solutions : Work closely with fellow engineers to develop and innovative, resource-efficient data solutions that scale with our growing business Define Data Architecture Vision : Work with the wider team to help establish and communicate the long-term technical vision for Flexcar's data engineering team, ensuring alignment with business strategy and industry best practices Drive Platform Strategy : Lead the evolution of our data infrastructure, making strategic technology choices that position Flexcar for future growth and competitive advantage Establish Engineering Standards : Define and champion data engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns that ensure consistency and quality across all data systems Lead Cross-Organizational Initiatives : Drive complex, multi-phase initiatives that span engineering, product, business intelligence, and external partnerships Technical Risk Management : Identify and mitigate technical risks across our data ecosystem, developing contingency plans and ensuring system resilience Innovate and Research : Evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies, conducting proof-of-concepts and driving adoption of new tools that enhance our data engineering capabilities Ensure Operational Excellence : Design and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response procedures for your data domains Technical Leadership and Mentoring : Mentor and develop both Level I and Level II engineers, establishing career development pathways and technical excellence standards Recruitment and Team Building : Participate in hiring decisions, technical interviews, and team expansion planning to build world-class data engineering capabilities What We’re Looking For: Senior-Level Experience : 6+ years of progressive data engineering experience with demonstrated leadership in architecting and scaling enterprise data systems Advanced SQL Proficiency : Expert-level SQL skills including complex query optimization, performance tuning, and database design principles for large-scale systems Architectural Expertise : Proven ability to design and implement large-scale data architectures, with deep understanding of trade-offs between different technological approaches Strategic Technical Leadership : Track record of driving technical strategy, influencing engineering culture, and leading complex initiatives across multiple teams and time horizons Business Acumen : Strong understanding of how data engineering decisions impact business outcomes, with ability to articulate technical concepts to executive stakeholders Team Development : Experience mentoring engineers, conducting technical interviews, and contributing to engineering career development programs Cross-Functional Partnership : Proven success working with non-technical stakeholders, product managers, and business leaders to define requirements and deliver solutions Continuous Innovation : History of researching and implementing new technologies, with ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and drive adoption of best practices Operational Excellence : Deep experience with monitoring, alerting, incident response, and building resilient systems that operate reliably at scale Preferred Qualifications: Enterprise Architecture Experience : Experience designing data architectures for high-growth technology companies or large enterprises Advanced Cloud Expertise : Deep expertise in AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP data services.

Modern Data Platform Leadership : Advanced experience with DBT, including macro development, testing frameworks, and deployment strategies Analytics and Visualization : Experience building and maintaining complex dashboards and analytics solutions using tools like Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms Infrastructure as Code : Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools for managing data infrastructure Performance Optimization : Experience with query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning in production environments Data Governance Leadership : Experience working with data governance frameworks, privacy compliance programs, and enterprise data management practices Startup to Scale Experience : Experience scaling data systems through rapid business growth phases Why You’ll Love Working Here: Join a diverse and passionate team in a flexible and innovative work environment.
