About this role:

The Quality Assurance Specialist provides mentorship and expertise in technologies and processes for Information Services (I.S.) Quality Assurance (QA).

He/She maintains an awareness of emerging technologies to ensure a competitive advantage.

This position automates test scenarios and expected outcomes.

He/She provides expertise for UPS key business functions and supporting technologies.

This position applies a comprehensive knowledge of technical skills, principles, practices, and procedures of testing methodologies and working knowledge in planning, designing, and conducting QA reviews and inspections.

He/She conducts comprehensive testing and risk-based assessments of the testing objects.

This position uses source documentation as input and contributes to the planning and implementation of testing activities.

The Quality Assurance Specialist leads testing components of large and complex projects, assigns tasks, provides direction to resources, and reports progress to project stakeholders.

He/She creates and selects tools and methodologies for review and approval by management.

Additional details:

Conducts QA Development Processes

• Develops and creates test ware (e.g., deliverables, plans, environment, data set-up, test cases, etc.) to ensure project test requirements are met.
  
  
• Identifies user requirements to ensure business scenarios and processes are incorporated into testing strategies for providing optimal designs.
  
  
• Designs test ware and leads test execution efforts to ensure defects are uncovered.
  
  
• Verifies test estimates and collaborates with test lead to ensure requirement testability and to establish adequate resource staffing.
  
  
• Provides QA input into business decisions and participates in project risk assessment reviews to increase efficiencies and to reduce risks.
  
  
• Identifies resources and activities required for each phase of testing to ensure testing needs are met.
  
  
• Manages and assigns tasks to resources to achieve objectives within a specific scope of work.
  
  
• Reviews results and reports to ensure test objectives and results are met.
  
  
• Assists development teams in root cause defect analyses and provides guidance in systems business process alignment to ensure proper resolution of identified defects.
  
  
• Provides status updates to key stakeholders (e.g., business users, project management, developers, etc.) to ensure test objectives are met and to support the project timeline.
  
  
• Identifies participants and the level of review required to ensure maximum quality standards.
  
  
• Conducts QA reviews and inspections to ensure accuracy and consistency of work products and test coverage (e.g., requirements, design, test plans, etc.).
  
  
• Updates work products to ensure versioning and configuration management.
  
  
• Executes tests and reviews results to ensure requirements and objectives are met.
  
  

Develops Test Solutions

• Recognizes automation and tool opportunities to increase efficiency and to improve quality.
  
  
• Manages the design, build, and implementation of test automation plans to increase efficiency and improve quality.
  
  
• Conducts reviews and inspections to ensure accuracy and consistency of work products and test coverage.
  
  
• Updates work products to ensure versioning and configuration management for work products.
  
  
• Assigns work and reviews results to ensure testing efficiency.
  
  
• Conducts continual evaluation of test library and ensures configuration management is utilized for test ware artifacts to ensure validity of test results.
  
  
• Executes tests and reviews results to meet testing objectives.
  
  

Provides Expertise in Testing Across the QA Organization

• Identifies tasks and methods that can be automated to ensure resources are maximized.
  
  
• Remains current in automation technology and software capabilities to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
  
  
• Provides guidance and leverages expertise across the QA organization to enhance technical expertise and to support technologies.
  
  
• Develops and plans performance testing in collaboration with development teams and appropriate support groups to ensure objectives are met.
  
  
• Remains current with industry trends, latest innovations, technology, and best practices within the testing discipline to disseminate updated knowledge throughout the organization.
  
  
• Analyzes production escaped defects to facilitate root cause analyses and to develop actions for process improvements.
  
  

Develops and Implements New Practices and Testing Standards

• Recommends new methods and modifications to ensure test coverage for assigned responsibility.
  
  
• Researches new technologies and processes to recommend investments to management.
  
  
• Develops quality process techniques to be leveraged across the QA organization.
  
  
• Analyzes project results to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  
  
• Evaluates testing processes and methods to ensure consistency and to enhance effectiveness of testing across multiple projects.
  
  
• Designs and implements test automation plans within established framework and architecture to increase efficiency and to improve quality.
  
  
• Utilizes peer reviews and audits to verify compliance to established standards.
  
  
• Develops and implements new testing tools and methodologies to improve effectiveness.
  
  
• Updates appropriate documents and communicates methods to ensure compliance and to share knowledge.
  
  

Contributes to Project Design

• Reviews business and functional requirements to develop testing approaches and strategies.
  
  
• Develops detailed test plans and selects appropriate testing tools to ensure accurate test resource allocation and utilization.
  
  
• Builds test strategies to define how testing will be conducted.
  
  
• Selects testing tools and methodologies to improve effectiveness.
  
  
• Engages in the early phases of projects to contribute to initial test planning and estimation activities.
  
  
• Validates project artifacts, results, and other project documents and processes by third-party providers to ensure goals and objectives have been met.
  
  
• Collaborates on cross-portfolio end-to-end test activities and multiple projects to ensure project objectives are met.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or the equivalent in education and work experience
• Experience in testing Windows applications in .NET and on the Azure platform
• Minimum 7+ years testing experience
• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in testing APIs
• Expertise with Windows IIS WCF and Azure Microservices
• Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service for testing containerized apps
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server queries
• Knowledge of Data Modeling, HTML and Object-Oriented Analysis & Design
• Experience with Agile Development 
• Familiarity with Business Acumen and Technical Analysis
• Must be detail-oriented and a self-motivated learner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with third-party integration teams
• Familiarity with Swagger and OpenAPI
