Java Big Data Engineering Development Senior Manager

Job description

The Applications Development Senior Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team.

The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities.

**Responsibilities:**

+ Lead and manage one or more Applications Development teams to achieve strategic goals, including comprehensive personnel management responsibilities such as performance evaluations, hiring, and disciplinary actions.
+ Provide expert technical oversight across various systems and applications, leveraging in-depth knowledge and skills in multiple Applications Development domains, especially within the Data Engineering space.
+ Critically review and analyze proposed technical solutions for new and ongoing projects, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and business objectives.
+ Contribute significantly to the formulation of strategic initiatives for applications development and other interconnected functional areas.
+ Develop a comprehensive understanding of how diverse business areas integrate to collectively achieve overarching business goals.
+ Exercise sound evaluative judgment based on thorough analysis of factual data, especially in complex and unique problem-solving scenarios.
+ Drive impactful outcomes within the Applications Development area by diligently monitoring the delivery of end results, actively participating in budget management, and adeptly handling day-to-day staff management issues, including resource management and efficient allocation of work within the team or project.
+ Ensure adherence to essential procedures and contribute to the definition of best practice standards, including negotiation with external stakeholders when necessary.
+ Demonstrate strong risk assessment capabilities in business decision-making, with particular attention to safeguarding Citigroup's reputation, clients, and assets.

This includes ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering strictly to company policy, applying sound ethical judgment in personal and business conduct, and transparently escalating, managing, and reporting control issues.

Effectively supervise the activities of others and foster accountability for maintaining these standards.

**Qualifications:**

+ **Experience:** 12 to 15 years of robust experience in Data Engineering, encompassing development across various frameworks and platforms including Big Data/Cloudera, HDFS, Hive, and Kafka.

Demonstrated expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, and Hibernate, with a focus on design, development, performance tuning, microservices architecture, troubleshooting, and deployment.
+ **Programming Languages:** Mandatory application development experience using Scala, Python, or Java.
+ **Orchestration:** Good knowledge of programmatically authoring, scheduling, and monitoring workflows using tools like Airflow, Camel scripts, or YAML script-based solutions for ELT/ETL orchestrations setup and executions.
+ **Cloud & Containerization:** Solid understanding of ECS (Elastic Container Service), Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
+ **Architecture & Design:** Well-versed in designing and architecting solutions that incorporate the latest technological advancements.

Strong design and execution mindset.
+ **Methodologies:** Proven experience working in an Agile environment, adhering to best practices of Agile Scrum.

Should be well versed with designing and architecting solutions with latest tech advancements.
+ **Domain Knowledge:** Hands-on working experience with Retail Banking products, specifically in Retail Risk and its Data Engineering with orchestration and federation layers for Business Analytics, Data Lineage, and Data Tracing.
+ **Databases & Caching:** Expertise in Elastic Search, NoSQL databases, and Caching solutions.
+ **Performance & Stability:** Expertise in designing and optimizing software solutions for performance and stability.
+ **Troubleshooting:** Proven expertise in troubleshooting and problem-solving complex technical issues.
+ **Quality Assurance:** Expertise in Test-Driven Development (TDD) and its automation.
+ **Security:** Expertise in Authentication, Authorization, and Security principles.
+ **AI/Generative AI:** Knowledge and understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI) concepts and their potential applications is a plus.
+ **Personal Attributes:** Passion for technology and a self-starter mentality
**Education:**

+ Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
+ Master’s degree preferred
