Role Title: Lead Software Engineer

Position Summary:

Participates as a senior team member in the design, development, and maintenance of multi-tiered business applications.

Individuals holding this position are typically expected to be mentors from technical and delivery perspectives as well as work independently as a member of a team.

Incumbents have a thorough understanding of available technology landscape, tools, and existing designs.

This individual also participates fully in all team practices and standards.

This role interfaces with IT colleagues and other stakeholders to evaluate defined complex business requirements and processes, assesses available technologies, determines infrastructure, and recommends solution options.

Incumbents play a significant role in building application solutions which may involve diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies, and tools.

Demonstrates personal accountability and actively engages the team in demonstrating accountability.

Supports quality efforts within the team.

Job Responsibilities:

Analysis & Design:

• Analyzes impact of requirements and works with Solution Architects on software solutions.
  
  Must consider usability, extensibility, efficiency, and performance during all phases of development.
  
  Applies design patterns to build secure, maintainable, testable, and evolvable software to ensure coherence across applications.
  
  Participates in designing software solutions and prepares technical documentation taking into consideration the Enterprise Architecture including authoritative sources of data, data & systems integration, and interrelationships across multiple subject areas (including transformation rules).
  
  Participates and leads design reviews.
  
  Contributes to the product backlogs.
  
  Assists in scheduling backlog items in the optimal execution order and ensures that the backlog is comprehensive.
  
  Advocates adoption of Enterprise initiatives.
  
  Helps develop business relationships and integrate activities with other IT departments as appropriate to ensure successful implementation and support efforts.

Skill and Experience:

• 5 to 7 Years of Experience required to perform essential job functions.
• Additional Experience Qualifier (optional): 7+ years of application development experience with business-critical applications in an agile, iterative development environment.
  
  2+ years of experience leading or mentoring small development teams or technical initiatives.
• Strong experience designing and developing APIs, reusable components, and integration services for scalable, cloud-native applications, preferably on Microsoft Azure.
• Solid understanding of microservices and event-driven architecture, with experience implementing secure APIs and contributing to contract-first development practices.
• Effective communicator and collaborator, capable of working across teams, participating in technical reviews, and clearly articulating technical concepts to peers and stakeholders.
• Proven ability to estimate and deliver moderately complex solutions, balancing technical depth with delivery timelines and quality expectations.
• Experience promoting engineering best practices such as code quality, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines, PBIs), with a focus on team-level consistency and reliability.
• Exposure to emerging technologies such as Azure OpenAI and GPT APIs, with interest or experience in integrating advanced capabilities into backend systems.

Must Have Skills:

Software Engineering & Architecture:

• Strong proficiency in C#, .NET, and cloud-native application development for distributed systems.
• Implements microservices and event-driven patterns;
  ensures API design aligns with contract-first principles and versioning best practices.
• Applies clean architecture principles, domain modelling, and interface design under guidance from principal architects.
• Contributes to shared libraries (e.G., logging, telemetry, auth) and supports package management via NuGet/NPM.
• Participates in architecture and design reviews;
  documents design and provides technical guidance within the team.
• Promotes SOLID principles and clean code practices in team deliverables.

Cloud & DevOps:

• Proficient in key Azure services (e.G., AKS, APIM, Key Vault, Service Bus, Blob Storage);
  applies best practices for service usage and cost optimization.
• Implements identity and access patterns using Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure B2C, MSAL, and Key Vault.
• Builds CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (multi-stage, approvals, environments);
  supports rollout strategies like blue/green and canary.
• Applies branching strategies and code governance using Azure DevOps Repos.
• Develops and deploys containers with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS);
  contributes to Helm Chart maintenance.
• Implements observability using Azure Application Insights and Dynatrace;
  supports dashboard creation and alerting.

Security & Authorization:

• Applies OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and claims-based authorization for APIs and services.
• Follows Zero Trust principles in service design (least privilege, identity-first authZ).
• Integrates security scans (SAST/DAST/Secrets/Dependency) into CI/CD pipelines;
  supports remediation efforts.
• Collaborates with security teams on compliance and threat modelling activities.

Testing & Quality:

• Contributes to test strategies including unit, integration, contract, and performance testing.
• Builds and maintains test automation frameworks;
  enforces CI quality gates and branch policies.
• Participates in peer reviews and supports refactoring and tech debt reduction initiatives.

Enterprise SDLC & Governance:

• Supports end-to-end delivery by contributing to architecture decisions, non-functional requirements, and operational readiness.
• Adheres to architecture governance standards and contributes to reference implementations.
• Applies delivery practices in Azure DevOps (work item taxonomy, branching, release strategies).
• Evaluates performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability in implementation decisions.

Data & Migration:

• Implements schema versioning and data compatibility strategies under guidance.
• Uses Flyway for database migrations;
  supports roll-forward/rollback and environment promotion.
• Contributes to data transformation and integration patterns across domains.

Leadership & Collaboration:

• Mentors junior developers and contributes to design reviews and technical decision-making.
• Communicates effectively across teams;
  participates in architecture forums and engineering communities.
• Drives adoption of shared services and promotes engineering best practices within the team.

Education and Certifications:

• 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, Computer Science Related
