Role Title: Senior Software Engineer

Position Summary:

Participates as a team member in the design, development, and maintenance of multi-tiered business applications.

Individuals holding this position are typically expected to work independently as a member of a team.

Incumbents have an understanding of technology landscape, tools, and existing designs.

This individual also participates fully in all team practices and standards.

This role interfaces with IT colleagues and other stakeholders to evaluate defined complex business requirements and processes.

Incumbents play a role in building application solutions which may involve diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies, and tools.

Demonstrates personal accountability and engages the team in demonstrating accountability.

Supports quality efforts within the team.

Job Responsibilities:

Analysis & Design:

- Analyzes impact of requirements and works with senior team members on software solutions.

Must consider usability, extensibility, efficiency, and performance during all phases of development.

Builds secure, maintainable, testable, and evolvable software.

Participates in designing software solutions and prepares technical documentation.

Participates in design reviews.

Contributes to the product backlogs.

Adopts Enterprise initiatives as required.

Helps develop business relationships and integrate activities with other IT departments as appropriate to ensure successful implementation and support efforts.

Development:

- Estimation: Develops technical estimates and timeframes without having complete information and provides confidence level in estimate.
- Coding: Designs and builds complex business applications and prepares technical specifications to develop software solutions.

Adopts FM best practices, architectural principles, and security standards.

Develops software to transform and migrate data across environments.

Actively participates in peer code reviews and is responsible for code quality.
- Test Automation: Responsible for writing pre-deployment automated tests for own delivered code.

Participates in testing and debugging of overall system as required.

Reviews automated test code to ensure appropriate test coverage.

Demonstrates ability to setup and monitor automated tests in the CICD pipeline.
- Support: Supports effort to implement application in production and support post-production.

Development work includes detailed, high quality documentation at appropriate level to allow for maintenance and support.

Supports reduction of technical debt and mitigates risks associated with upgrades.

Research:

- Participates in continuous improvement through experimentation to stay abreast of the changing technological landscape and presents value to the product organization.

Skill and Experience:

- Required: 3-5 years of software engineering experience with strong proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem, with experience in object-oriented design and implementation.
- Additional Experience Qualifier (optional): 5+ years of application development experience with large-scale business applications in a fast-paced iterative development environment; 3+ years designing, developing, and implementing business applications from concept through production.
- Hands-on experience designing and building APIs, reusable components, and integration services for cloud-native applications.
- Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture, including secure API design principles and contract-first development.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in cross-functional teams, participate in code reviews, present technical concepts, translate them for diverse audiences, and demonstrate accountability for successful delivery with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to develop accurate estimates for complex solutions and maintain a strong work ethic.
- Experience applying engineering best practices for code quality, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to Azure OpenAI and GPT APIs for backend integration is a plus.

Must Have Skills:

Software Engineering and Architecture:

- Builds cloud-native services using C#/.NET in microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Applies API design fundamentals (contract-first, versioning, backward compatibility awareness).
- Implements and consumes reusable components for logging, telemetry, and configuration.
- Demonstrates strong grasp of design patterns, SOLID, and clean code practices.
- Writes unit and integration tests and contributes to contract tests with consumer-driven patterns.
- Collaborates on technical design docs and participates in design reviews.

Cloud and DevOps:

- Hands-on with Azure: AKS, APIM, Key Vault, Service Bus, Blob Storage, Azure CLI.
- Familiarity with Identity and Access: Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure B2C, MSAL, Key Vault, Akeyless.
- Works with Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines; Boards/PBIs for tracking).
- Builds and deploys containers using Docker and Kubernetes (AKS); authors basic Helm Charts.
- Uses observability platforms: Azure Application Insights and Dynatrace (metrics, logs, traces, dashboards).
- Contributes to IaC and environment configs (e.g., Helm values); partners with platform teams as needed.

Security and Authorization:

- Understands OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT/ RBAC, and claims-based APIs; applies secure API design.
- Practices Zero Trust principles (least privilege, secret isolation in Key Vault/Akeyless, no implicit trust).
- Applies secure coding aligned to OWASP Top 10/ASVS and participates in threat modeling sessions.
- Integrates and responds to SAST/DAST/Secrets/Dependency scans in CI/CD (e.g., Veracode exposure preferred).
- Observability and Azure Cloud

Testing and Quality:

- Implements test strategies across unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, performance/load, and chaos experiments (with guidance).
- Automates tests in CI with quality gates: code coverage, linting, static analysis, and security gates.
- Participates in peer reviews and upholds coding standards and style guides.

Enterprise SDLC and Governance:

- Delivers software end-to-end: requirements, architecture collaboration, development, testing, deployment, and readiness.
- Works within Azure DevOps processes (PBIs, definition of done, change/release practices).
- Ensures solutions meet performance, reliability, scalability, cost, and maintainability goals; tracks SLOs/SLAs where applicable.
- Partners with SRE/operations for production readiness and incident follow-ups (light ops involvement).

Data and Migration (Nice to Have):

- Awareness of schema versioning and application data compatibility.
- Exposure to Flyway (or similar) for database migrations is a plus.

Education and Certifications:

- 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, Computer Science Related
